Many Solutions. One Partner.
In the client/server environment, Papst is preparing to migrate
from SAP R/2 to R/3. Eberbach decided to go with COMPAREX as
its exclusive partner for this project. That's because at COMPAREX,
Papst finds everything it needs under one roof: whether hardware
or micro-code, operating system or the Oracle database for R/2
applications, SAP basic installation or coordination and training
of employees.
Gerhard Eberbach relies on COMPAREX because of long-time experience.
Because other suppliers couldn't fulfil his expectations for
product quality, service and performance, COMPAREX got its first
chance in the early 90s - with conventional disk drives. Later,
a TETRAGON RAID5 and a 6394 system followed. Both systems are
still running today with no problems. While preparing to implement
R/3, only COMPAREX NT servers and the QS system were acquired,
which are now intended to be used as production system. At the
same time, Papst installed a COMPAREX cluster solution for SAP's
personnel system (Human Resources module). It is used as development
system, QA system and production system. In the beginning, the
small RAID5 D1200 system was used. But because more capacity
was needed, it soon became clear that a uniform solution was
needed - TETRAGON 2100, which now has a storage capacity of
450 GB.
Intelligent Service - Successful Data
Processing
Papst has signed long-term contracts with highly qualified partners
in those areas in which it has decided not to build up its own
capacities and know-how. In the area of basic SAP installation,
for example, which is now being carried out by COMPAREX. In
addition to the usual maintenance contract, Papst has signed
a service contract with COMPAREX that guarantees one day per
month of software and service support by the company in Mannheim.
Eberbach is confident: "Preventive maintenance of systems that
are sure not to crash anyway is a particularly attractive feature
of COMPAREX."
COMPAREX - At Home in All Systems
In the future, Papst intends to continue to rely on SAP software
tools. To ensure the physical transfer of large amounts of data
between the mainframe and client/server environments, Papst
uses COMPAREX's RAID5 system for both environments. COMPAREX
software is also responsible for data exchange between the two
systems - "and its performance is very good," says Eberbach.
The software tests Papst conducted late in 1998 were a complete
success. Which allows Gerhard Eberbach to view the future optimistically.

Papst Motoren GmbH & CO. KG, St. Georgen, has 1,200 employees
in Germany and just as many in Hungary. Exports: 65%. Sales
volume was more than DM 300 million in the 1998/99 fiscal
year and is expected to increase to DM 320 million in the
current year. Papst is active primarily in the areas of air
conditioning, medical and household technology, and in the
machine, textile, telecommunications, computer and pump industries,
as well as in the automotive industry.
